Ma'ot Chittim - Food for the Needy
I recently met a young woman named Robin*. Her husband had passed away after battling cancer. A single mom of 3, Robin has had to cut back her work hours and struggles to meet her monthly home, mortgage and living expenses. Still mourning her loss, Robin balances parenting, grief, and fighting foreclosure.
Thankfully, with your support, Chabad can be there for her.
While the comforts of a shelter and sufficient food may be taken for granted by many of us in Merrick, sadly, there are hundreds of families and seniors living alone who are struggling to put food on the table. Yes, even here in the Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh area. Some of them knock on chabad’s door for help. Others, Chabad searches and seeks out.
Take Jonathan*, for instance. A World War 2 veteran, Jonathan lives alone and battles health issues daily, with multiple injuries, physical and emotional. He cannot afford necessities such as heat and electricity, and at times is forced to sleep in the dark under many layers to keep warm.
These are the people to whom Chabad offers assistance, and we cannot do it without your help.
Every week, in partnership with Tomchei Shabbos and Circle of Hope, Chabad volunteers deliver wholesome Kosher food packages to needy families, seniors, and sickly individuals. Before each holiday the packages arrive with special treats. Apples and honey for Rosh Hashana, latkas and chocolate gelt for Chanukah, and before Passover, recipients receive a full shopping list of food items to choose from that includes meat, matzah, gefilte fish, grape juice, wine and other holiday staples.
Unfortunately, the need and demand for these services is ever increasing. We need your generous support today to make a dramatic difference in the lives of people like Robin and Jonathan. Please donate generously so we can alleviate the pain and suffering of the needy in our own community.
We thank you for your support, and wish you and yours much success and blessing in all that you do. In the merit of your kindness, may G‑d shower you with happiness, Nachas and prosperity.
Warmly,
Rabbi Shimon Kramer
