CHABAD’S 1ST PRE-HIGH HOLIDAY FAIR

Chabad of Merrick/Bellmore receives citation from Nassau County Legislature

Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg of the19th Legislative District, presented Chabad of Merrick/Bellmore with a citation from Nassau County Legislature, recognizing and congratulating Chabad for giving this exemplary service to the community, thereby filling a need within the community.

As the new Jewish year was ushered in, Chabad of Merrick/Bellmore introduced a unique educational Pre-High Holiday Fair, designed to educate children as well as adults in the fundamentals of the High Holidays.

At the fair, which was open to the entire Jewish community, children and adults were treated to many hands-on activities to usher in the new Jewish year.  As praying for a sweet new year is on everyone’s mind, a beekeeper came with live honey-bees and showed everyone how honey is extracted from the bees.  Families had a chance to taste some of the foods that are traditionally served on Rosh Hashana.  Children had a chance to create a honey dish for Rosh Hashana, as well as create new years cards for their friends.  Braiding their own Challah to take home, and a giant Connect Four trivia game were just some of the exciting activities offered.

“I believe that the ’hands-on’ approach is the best way to teach,” said Rabbi Shimon Kramer, Director of Chabad of Merrick/Bellmore. “When children and adults get to feel, smell, taste, see and touch, the activity becomes a part of you, much more than just a fond memory.”

Chabad of Merrick/Bellmore/Wantagh, an affiliate of the Chabad Lubavitch Organization -  with over 3,000 centers worldwide, plans to introduce many more programs to the community in the near future, establishing a steady presence in the communities of Southeast Nassau.
